Think about it. We're constantly scrolling on our phones, binge-watching our favourite shows on Netflix and even working long hours, exposing our eyes to a lot of digital screen time. So, having a dedicated eye care regime is not only important but also a need during this digital age.

Whether you wear contact lenses, prescription glasses or neither, it’s always good practice to take care of your eyes. Don’t have an eye care routine? We have put together the ultimate step-by-step routine for you, read on to find out more.

Eye care routine for contact lens wearers

Before you begin your routine, it is essential to remove your contact lenses correctly.

If you wear dailies, you can simply dispose of them after a full day’s wear. However, if you wear monthlies or two-weeklies, then you must clean and store your lenses properly after every use. Please note that it is important to clean your contact lenses one at a time.

To clean your contact lenses:

  • Take the lens out of your eye and place on the palm of your hand
  • Add a few drops of a contact lens cleaning solution
  • Give a gentle rub with your index finger
  • Place safely in a contact lens case

Try multi-purpose contact lens solutions to clean, store and disinfect your lenses. Then store your lenses in a contact lens case to carry them on the go. Still feeling unsure on how to clean and store your lenses? Follow our detailed guide for more information.

7-step essential eye care routine

Care for your eyes with our 7 simple, yet effective steps that will help you feel eye-mazing!

Woman following her eye care regime
Step 1 - Clean and dry your hands:

You must always thoroughly clean and dry your hands before handling your contact lenses or glasses. Make sure to safely dispose or store them according to your wearing schedule.

Step 2 - Wash your face with water:

Complete your skin care routine (if you have one) and wash your face and eyelids with water. It is one of the most simple ways to feel refreshed after a tiresome day. Once done, pat your face and eyelid dry with a clean towel.

Step 3 - Use an eyelid cleanser:

Apply the eyelid cleanser to a cotton pad and gently massage your eyelids to remove any dirt, debris or eye make-up. This step will ensure your eyelids have been thoroughly cleaned and maintain eyelid hygiene.

Step 4 - Use an eye mask:

Show your eyes some more love by using a heat eye mask. Warm the eye mask and carefully place over your eyes. Let the eye mask rest over closed eyelids for about 10 minutes. Then remove the mask and once again, gently massage your eyelids.

Step 5 - Use lid wipes:

Cleanse and hydrate your eyes by using an eyelid wipe. To use as a cold compress, place the unopened sachet in a refrigerator for a few minutes. Then wipe from the inner corner of your eyes to across the lashes.

Step 6 - Apply eye drops:

Eye drops are an essential step to soothe and hydrate your eyes. Carefully apply one drop into your eye, then close your eye and slowly open. Repeat this for the other eye. If you don’t like using eye drops you can also use an eye gel or eye spray to moisturise your eyes.

Step 7 - Apply an eyelid cream:

To complete your eye care routine, apply the eyelid cream to the skin around your eyes.

Please note: For full instructions and safety information you must refer to the label of the product. If you are unsure whether any of the products are unsuitable for you, please seek advice from an optician.
